TRAINING
Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía
mentored by Johannes Erath
02 - 04 May 2024
Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía
This workshop is an opportunity for dramaturgs and stage directors to explore the dramaturgy in Verdi’s operas and the problems we face nowadays when we try to put them on stage, from a contemporary point of view. The workshop will be mentored by stage director Johannes Erath.
“To copy the truth can be a good thing, but to invent the truth is better, much better” – G. Verdi
This well-known quote of Giuseppe Verdi shall be the initial point of the workshop. What means “truth” or maybe better “truthfulness” or “veracity” in an art form, which is in itself highly artificial. Is that not a contradiction?
In which way Verdi might have understood that phrase, what does that mean for each of us nowadays ?
Discussing this question will be the beginning of an interactive journey in Verdi’s universe, this workshop wants to give the opportunity to each participant to melt with this universe for a few days: talking, listening, explaining, observing, role play, pantomime, staging, getting staged…
