TRAINING
Theaterakademie August Everding
masterclass by Topi Lehtipuu
24 - 29 January 2022
Theaterakademie August Everding
After the success of the last workshop with the Finish opera singer Topi Lehtipuu in 2017 (“What means contemporary?”) the Theaterakademie August Everding would like to go one step further and explore the process of approaching, understanding and decoding new music for singers and pianists.
The participants of the workshop will work on contemporary opera repertoire and practice on how to deal with contemporary music. Exploring different opera arias and pieces written after 1980 will be the practical basis to identify the ‘classical elements´ in contemporary music and to define criteria for what contemporary means. Similarities between classical and modern singing technics will be explored and analysed during the workshop.
There will be a lecture and practical exercises on a daily basis for all participants and musical coaching in groups and individually. There will be group discussions and impulse lectures on musical, historical and social topics and time for networking with the international workshop guests and the students of the master program of the Theaterakademie.
The workshop can help artists, especially singers, to overcome the fear of contemporary music and to develop a deeper understanding for the meaning of what contemporary means.
At the end of the workshop there will be a public concert at the Gartensaal of the Prinzregententheater presenting the workshop`s results.
