Residency for a composer and a librettist

Singaporean composer Diana Soh and French librettist Richard Dubelski are invited to a residency in Snape Maltings to pursue the development of their project Façon Tragique de Tuer une Femme (Tragic Ways of Killing a Woman) which uses the heroines of the Greek tragedies as a springboard for articulating the disparity in the treatment of women today versus that of men. The representation of modern day issues through Greek mythology opens the intimate issues of womanhood to a larger timeless universe.
Session 1: 19-29 November 2018
Session 2: October 2019
During the Aldeburgh residency, the team will involve local people in their creative process to gather text material for the libretto, they will raise awareness on issues that women face today and allow the natural surroundings and various artwork and installations to inspire their process.
With a small group of performers, they will try short musical sketches at the end of the first session and will trial similar sketches with an ensemble during the second phase of the residency.
