TRAINING
Theaterakademie August Everding
German repertoire for singers
08 - 13 April 2019
Theaterakademie August Everding
The so called romantic music (late 18th until mid-19th century) stands for a time period which was influenced by many different literary, artistic and philosophical themes.
What exactly is Romanticism? Where did it come from, where did it go to? What exactly are the criteria to define Romanticism in music? What kind of technical skills do singers need to sing romantic repertoire and is there an influence on contemporary music performance as well?
The workshop will focus on what exactly romantic meant in past periods and what it means until today.
The workshop programme will include theoretical sessions on the "idea" of romanticism and on where you can find traces and influence of this musical era in contemporary music
The practical part will be exercises and musical coachings (in groups and individually). Different arias from the so called “romantic era” will be chosen for a detailed research on criteria being romantic (for example Carl Maria von Weber and Albert Lortzing).
The workshop can help young artists, especially singers, to develop and deepen their understanding of the meaning of Romanticism while helping them to deal with the challenges of romantic repertoire, as well as with regards to technical skills and levels of interpretation. Particular attention will be given to German phonetics.
A public concert will be given at the end of the workshop on April 13th at the Gartensaal. It will give an overview of the content of the workshop programme.
